Where It Started
CareerSource North Florida first met Robert F. at a community outreach event connecting veterans with employers and local resource partners. Although they stayed in contact, Robert later returned to CareerSource North Florida when he was ready for employment and resource assistance.
The Challenge
After years as an owner-operator in the trucking industry, rising maintenance and repair costs made it increasingly difficult for Robert to maintain financial stability. He was ready for a new career and needed help identifying opportunities where his military and professional experience could be put to work.
The Support
CareerSource North Florida helped Robert identify his transferable skills and provided individualized employment assistance. Staff advocated on his behalf with a local employer, highlighting his qualifications, work ethic, and experience. He was recommended for an Animal Control Officer position and was offered the job.
The Result
Robert began his new position on October 2025, successfully transitioning into stable employment serving his local community.
His journey continued when CareerSource staff connected him with the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs to explore veteran benefits. After navigating the claims process, Robert was awarded a 100% service-connected disability rating on August 2026. He subsequently chose to retire from his position and focus on his health and family.

A recent CareerSource North Florida participant enrolled as an Out-of-School Youth with the goal of earning his high school diploma. Within a short timeframe, he successfully completed this milestone and quickly took the next step toward career exploration through a Work Experience opportunity in an administrative role with a local organization.
Through this hands-on experience, Jesse discovered a passion for public service and emergency response. With guidance and support from CSNF, he transitioned into a new Work Experience placement with a local fire department while beginning Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training at North Florida College.
Now nearing completion of his training and work experience hours, Jesse is actively pursuing employment as an EMS Technician, with long-term goals of advancing further in the field.
Jesse's journey highlights the power of persistence, step-by-step goal setting, and the impact of work-based learning opportunities in helping individuals build meaningful career pathways.
